Searching for better educational, athletic, and arts opportunities, the Keck family moved to the Park Hill School District in 1984 when Jason was in the 6th grade. His parents saw the Park Hill School District as industry leaders in academics and preparing students for college, including student-athletes. In addition, the Park Hill District’s facilities were innovative, well-maintained and better equipped to meet the needs of its students compared to its neighboring districts. Jason attended Graden Elementary School, Plaza Middle School, and Park Hill High School where he won a state high school wrestling championship and was selected as an Asics All-American for his wrestling and academic achievements.
After graduating from Park Hill High School in 1991, Jason earned a Division I wrestling scholarship and attended California University of Pennsylvania. He later returned to Kansas City earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Management from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After graduating college, Jason worked for locally for AT&T Capital before returning to school to follow a lifelong dream in becoming an attorney. Jason graduated from the UMKC School of Law in 2001 and now is in private practice manning his own firm – The Keck Law Firm, LLC.
As an attorney, Jason has fought diligently for his clients against big corporations and helped community members navigate through complex personal and business legal needs. His ability to analyze facts, use critical reasoning, evaluate positions from both sides of a contested matter and then advocate effectively have made him a successful litigator. His ability to listen, process and then advise are strengths that will carry over as a school board member.
Jason’s passion for serving the community began by volunteering as a wrestling coach after college. He wanted to give back to the sport that provided him with so many opportunities and helped shape him into being a disciplined, dedicated and productive person. Also, Jason had a vision and goal of developing student-athletes within the district to bring a high school state wrestling team title to the Park Hill School District. As a result of Jason’s dedication and countless others committed to the same cause, Park Hill High School has now won 9 state wrestling team titles since 2003. Jason has also participated in the Park Hill Professional Studies Program mentoring high school students who have an interest in the legal field. Due to Jason’s continued service in the Park Hill School District, he was inducted into the Park Hill District Hall of Fame in 2009. He also currently works with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and donates his time, energy and talents in serving the needs of coaches and athletes across the country.
Jason’s son, Cael, is currently a senior student-athlete at Park Hill High School who will be attending college after graduation at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock on both an academic and athletic scholarship. His sister, Jennifer, has been a Park Hill District educator for 24 years, currently teaching special education. Jason’s parents are still rooted in the Park Hill School District and are huge supporters of Park Hill schools. Jason has nephews and other close friends who currently work as administrators, teachers, coaches and support staff for the Park Hill School District. He is ingrained in the community, including education, on a consistent basis and wants nothing more than to Return the Park Hill School District to Greatness!
